THE WEIR POOL
A safe place to swim, paddle, and enjoy the river
The Weir Pool is managed by local voluntary group Thomastown Community River Trust who are committed
to the sustainable and sensitive development of the leisure, heritage, and environmental resources of the River Nore in Thomastown.
Lifeguards are on duty at The Weir Pool for weekends during June from 2pm-4.30pm and 5pm-7.30pm, and 7 days during July and August from 2pm-4.30pm and 5pm-7.30pm.
In 2023, TCRT are using funds raised to:
-
Purchase new picnic benches for the site
-
Install a second handrail to increase ease of accessibility into the river
-
Maintain built heritage of the site, including repairs to the sluice gate at the mill wheel.
TCRT and Friends of the Weir
are working on:
-
Planting over 30 native trees in the designated wild biodiversity areas on site
-
Launching We ❤️ Weir Pool, a creative values mapping project led by committee members Jeffrey Gormly and Amelia Caulfield.
-
Hosting 'Wet The Shamrock', an annual fundraising event held on St.Patricks day.
The work TCRT do to maintain and manage The Weir Pool relies entirely on volunteers, good will, and donations. We sincerely appreciate the generous support of our community.

We ❤️ Weir Pool
In order to inform future management and development of the Weir Pool, we set out to identify and map what is already valued about this place, through a long term collaborative and inclusive creative process.
We decided to work with themes of celebration and gratitude, naming the project: We ♥ Weir Pool.
We engaged various users of the Weir Pool in creative activities which allowed us to surface deep responses to the question,
‘What do you love about the Weir Pool?’
